SUNDAY 23 SEPTEMBER 2018 – Canberra Times Fun Run
1km, 5km and 10km courses
The first Canberra Times Family Fun Run was held in 1976 to commemorate the paper’s 50th anniversary. The original 9.6 km route started at the Trademan’s Club, in Furzer Street, Phillip. Runners turned into Launceston Street ran up to the intersection with Melrose Drive turned north and ran through to Yarra Glen. From then on the route was the same as today’s route. Over the decades some of Australia’s best athletes have stood upon the podium
SUNDAY 30 SEPTEMBER 2018 – Gears and Beers (Cycling) Festival
Craft beer and picturesque cycling routes. Festival atmosphere, outstanding locally roasted coffee, accompanied by local regional food plus first class musical entertainment. Fast becoming a must do event for cyclists around the country who enjoy a quality beer at the end of a ride. Courses range from 9km to the Dirty 130.
OCTOBER 2018 – Great Cycle Challenge Australia

Great Cycle Challenge started in 2013, and after just five years, the event has grown to become one of the biggest cycling events in Australia. People of all ages, abilities and from every state across the country set themselves a personal riding goal and challenge themselves to pedal throughout October to fight kids’ cancer.
In five years, our community of 42,498 riders from all six states and two territories have ridden a total of 10,305,632km, and together we’ve raised $12,280,194 in support of research to develop better treatments and find a cure for childhood cancer.
So we’re calling on all Australians to get on their bikes this October and join our movement to kick cancer’s butt!
SUNDAY 14 OCTOBER 2018 – Medibank Melbourne Marathon
The Medibank Melbourne Marathon Festival is Australia’s premier Marathon event. There are five event distances to choose from, each finishing with a lap of the hallowed turf of the MCG.
SUNDAY 21 OCTOBER 2018 – Bowral (Cycling) Classic
Make your choice from three courses: The Maxi Classic, a challenging 160km ride through some of the most breathtaking scenery you can experience on two wheels. The Challenge Classic; a 120km option for those with less time on their hands, or distance in their legs. For a cruisier and casual experience, The Social Classic is a 45km ride through the most stunning areas of the Southern Highlands, with the opportunity to stop in a local wineries and cafes along the way.
SUNDAY 4 NOVEMBER 2018 – Sydney to ‘Gong bike ride
The MS Gong Ride is Nationally acclaimed for its scenery, course and adventure, you don’t want to miss this. For 37 years, tens of thousands of cyclists have hit the road in this legendary ride from Sydney to Wollongong to raise funds for people living with multiple sclerosis.
You can choose to cycle 82km or 58km.
You’ll pedal along a stunning natural backdrop as you make your way through the Royal National Park, enjoy the incredible ocean views from Stanwell Tops, ride over the breathtaking Sea Cliff Bridge before crossing the finish line in Wollongong amongst a backdrop of surf, sun and sand.
SATURDAY 24 NOVEMBER 2018 – Jackie Fairweather Memorial Triathlon
In honour of the late Jackie Fairweather, this race promises to be something truly special. Jackie made an amazing contribution to triathlon and sport in general, and this event brings together many wonderful aspects of the Triathlon Australia Hall of Famer’s life.
Held over Australia’s most popular triathlon distance, the Sprint, competitors will compete on a 750m swim, 20km cycle and 5km run. Jackie’s love, of not only triathlon but also running, will be showcased at the event with an inclusive day for all to be a part of the celebration of an amazing woman.
SUNDAY 25 NOVEMBER 2018 – Stromlo Running Festival
In 2009, Australia’s marathon great, Robert De Castella united with 28 Sporting Innovations and the YMCA of Canberra Runners Club in a strategic partnership to host the inaugural Stromlo Running Festival. This event is unlike any other running event held in Australia and is centred within the world-class facilities of Canberra’s Stromlo Forest Park.
Distances include 2.5km kids, 10km, 30km and 50km
SATURDAY 23 MARCH – SUNDAY 24 MARCH 2019 – Relay For Life
Join the FIT team
Relay For Life is a fun and moving overnight experience that raises vital funds for the Cancer Council’s research, prevention, information and support services. Relay is a chance for the Canberra community to recognise and celebrate local cancer survivors, patients and their carers, to honour and remember loved ones lost to cancer and to raise money to help save more lives.
