2018 Rookie Trail Running program – A beginner trail training program for women

What is Rookie Trail Running?

A 10 week beginner program for those who are new to trail running targeting the 10km distance at the Stromlo Running Festival held 25 November 2018.

What equipment do I need?

Running shoes are essential, or trail running shoes if you have them. FIT will organise an opportunity to learn about trail running shoe options early in the program.

Who should register?

The program suits those who have some experience running eg: they can run 5km comfortably, or they are looking to improve their running on trails.

What is the commitment?

The program starts in the week of 17 September 2018.

There will be three organised training sessions per week. Tuesday mornings 6.30am at Lennox Gardens, Thursday mornings 6am at the Arboretum, and Saturday mornings 7.30am at either the Saturday FIT run or a nearby trail alternative when the run is on paths.

There will be an optional fourth run on Sundays as well as suggested strengthening/stretching exercises throughout the week, which participants can fit into their schedules.

What is the cost?

The program cost is $50 (event entry fee additional), and you must be a member of FIT to register (membership info). FIT membership does not include personal accident or third-party liability insurance.

Key dates

Registrations for the event, 25 November, open 4 July 2018

SWIMMING LONG 2018

Are you a swimmer or triathlete looking to ‘go longer’ in the water?

Join our ‘Swimming Long’ program for 2018!

The program will commence in the first week of January and run up to the weekend of the Sri Chinmoy Lake Swims and Huskisson Triathlon Festival on 16 – 18 February. It will work primarily around the existing FIT swim sessions, including a soon-to-begin (but details still TBD) lake swim session.

The program would be appropriate for both swimmers and multi-sport athletes who might want to target their swim leg more specifically, and will work alongside both the Next Steps and World Champs triathlon training groups.

Further information, including how to register available via this link.

World Age Group Champs Training Program

You may have seen some posts recently about FIT’s previous age group world triathlon girls? Would you like to wear the green and gold at the triathlon Age Group World Champs at the Gold Coast in 2018? Qualifiers for the World Champs kick off in October and a number of FIT members are planning their campaigns NOW.  With this aim in mind, we have teamed up with sports coach, Jeremy Kimpton from Fit Happens, who is writing a training plan for FIT to use in conjunction with existing FIT sessions. This triathlon focused training plan will be periodised over the course of the qualifying races and the months leading up to the Gold Coast World Championships next year.

Members who sign up to this program, with the aim of qualifying for the 2018 event, will receive a copy of the group plan (specific to either the Olympic or Sprint distance) which will have a few

simple adjustments tailored to their needs, strengths, weaknesses, injuries, and any modifications they require. Participants in the program will be required to make an initial commitment of $25 per month for a minimum of three months starting on 4th September. It is expected that there will be a limited number of places available so early registration and payment will be required to secure a place.  Register for the program here.  Registration closes on the 11th August.  For more information contact   enquiries@fitact.org.au. Please note it is a  prerequisite for this program that you have full competing membership of Triathlon Australia.

Depending on interest, we are also considering a second in take into the program, possibly in October running for 10 weeks.  This will be a great opportunity for those who have already participated in a triathlon and want to freshen up their skills and get race ready for the upcoming tri season.  Please contact   enquiries@fitact.org.au to register your interest for this program.

To assist with your preparation, some fee based FIT group sessions may be offered in conjunction with these programs (depending on numbers) including Triathlon Swim Stroke Correction, Equipment & Bike Set-up, Race Preparation and Nutrition Information.  Keep an eye out over the next couple of months for notice of upcoming events.
