As we approach the warmer weather, we have arranged to provide a fire awareness session (particularly for runners). Guest speakers with significant experience with fires gained through Parks and the rural fire service will provide information and advice on the following:

Before you run

  • Fire danger – what the signs mean and should we really run there
  • What to carry (most trail runners will have the vests but could carry a couple of KG at most)
  • Who to let know (mainly if running in national parks or on remote trails).

Once you are running-

  • Factors affecting bushfire behaviour such as fuel, weather and topography
  • Bushfire survival: Protective clothing and where/how to shelter
  • Dangers after a fire has passed

The session will be held outdoors at the Himalayan Cedar Lookout at the National Arboretum, BYO rug to sit on and refreshments.
