Swimming and water running

FIT has several sessions each week of swimming and water running – there are swimming lanes, so there’s room to stretch out and do some laps and drills and practice stroke improvement.

Swimming

We run swimming sessions on Monday and Wednesday nights. There is a fee for these sessions to cover pool and lane hire fees.

Monday, 7.30pm – 9.00pm

Location: Canberra Girls’ Grammar School pool, Deakin
Cost: $4.00  (please give this to the coach on the night).

There are four coached swim lanes are available, allocated as follows:

  • One lane for skills development and less confident swimmers;
  • The three other lanes for a short (approx. 1500 metres), medium (approx. 1700 metres) and longer (approx. 2000 metres) program

The pool is located on the corner of Melbourne Avenue and Empire Circuit

Take the small set of steps on Empire Circuit leading to the basketball courts, the pool is on your right hand side (down a set of steps into the adjacent building).

Please follow CGGS rules:

  • No access to the pool prior to 7.30pm (not even to get changed)
  • Everyone must have left the pool by 9.00pm so the pool operator can secure the building
  • Please observe parking restrictions (which are enforced at all times) around Girls’ Grammar Empire Circuit entrance. There is NO parking in the school grounds and do not park on the school neighbours’ nature strips or grass verges!

Wednesday, 6.00am – 7.00am

Location: Civic Pool
Cost:  $4 to cover lane hire, paid to the coach, plus pool entry (let the staff know that you’re with FIT)

This session is a  ‘guided’ swim – FIT swim coaches will be present and will provide a swim set for participants to follow, but the session will be un-coached. 

Wednesday, 6.50pm – 8.00pm

Location: CISAC Pool, Belconnen.
Cost: Pool entry fee $4.50 (let CISAC staff know that you are with FIT) $4 per session for lane hire (please give this to the FIT coach on the evening.

Meet coaches at the shallow end of the pool, add your name to the attendance sheet. The coach will discuss plans for the evening.


Water runningwater-running

Water running is tougher than you might think – but because your whole body is supported, it’s great for general recovery after other training and for rehab if you have an injury. Lots of members who run and cycle swear by a weekly water running session to aid recovery, build strength and increase endurance. There are currently three sessions per week:

Monday, 6.00am – 7.00am

Cost: Pool entry fee plus $4 to the Coach for lane hire

Monday, 7.30pm – 9.00pm

Location: Canberra Girls’ Grammar School pool, Deakin 
Cost:
$4 to the Coach for lane hire (see above for location and pool rules).

Wednesday,  6.00am – 7.00am
