FEMALES IN TRAINING
WHAT IS FEMALES IN TRAINING?
Females in Training (FIT) is Canberra's unique, non-profit community based group for women of all ages & abilities who want to enjoy safe, non-competitive sports training and exercise in a supportive and fun atmosphere. The group provides training sessions, coaching, advice and get togethers for women aged from 18 to 60+. Our main focus is on the three triathlon disciplines of swimming, running and cycling, though in 2010 we'll also be offering mountain bike, kayaking - and who knows what else! FIT has accredited coaches in swimming, running and cycling who can provide advice and training programs for beginners and novices through to an advanced level - so no experience is necessary to join FIT! We are particularly interested in providing support for women who are commencing or recommencing their involvement in physical activity - and showing you how much fun it can be as well!
Females in Training is located in Canberra, Australian Capital Territory, Australia.
And FIT is now on Facebook - have a look here & become a fan!!

To help you decide, you're welcome to come along to 2-3 sessions to try us out before deciding if you want to join -- swimming, running or cycling (or any combination), it's up to you. Please let the coaches/session leader know you're new, just so we can keep an eye out for you. If you like what we're about -- and why wouldn't you? - we ask you to officially join up here -- see the latest info below for how to join online. Below is important info from Saturday run organiser Julianne about post-run breakfast-ing arrangements to keep in mind:
Saturday runs are attracting a large contingent and this sometimes presents a number of issues so I thought I’d share with you how I handle these. Firstly, people need to be considerate as to where they choose to park – if we are running from a suburban shopping centre please don’t park in the car park right in front of the newsagent or local supermarket – leave these for local shoppers who will only park a few minutes – after all the extra walk will help with your warm up! Even better save some carbon and ride or car pool. Secondly, the bookings are for breakfast for 25-30 people: with a group this size café owners expect people to eat breakfast – I’m regularly asked if all people coming will eat and I say yes. And lastly - times – breakfast is booked at 8.30am. I warn the café about the staggered arrivals. I’m also often asked what time we will be leaving so I usually say the majority of people will be gone by 10am. I think it has been working well restricting the list of cafes we attend to those that can cope with our group size – the café staff seem to get to know what to expect when we turn up. Happy for any feedback.

For those who want to plan ahead (yep, we know it's the brekkie you want to plan not the run!) the entire 2010 Saturday schedule is here.

TRAINING PROGRAMS
Several members have asked about the City to Surf training program that Tuesday morning coach Jane Grey is using -- you'll find it on the last page of this document. There are also training programs for 5km, 10km & half marathon events here, so there's no excuse to sleep-in anymore (well, how about when it minus 4 & raining you get an extra half hour!).

HEALTHY HIT
A new weekly (or thereabouts!) feature to point you to interesting health/fitness related articles your webmistress comes across in her net surfing adventures - I'd also welcome your contributions and ideas. This week, an interesting piece from the New York Times about how sports bars & gels compare with energy drinks. See what you think!
