COVID-19 Impact on Cycling

Cycling activities may not be taking place as normal. Please see Facebook for updates and refer to the latest COVID-19 Information and Risk Management Plan for details about FIT’s return to face-to-face training in all disciplines.
FIT has a number of coached and uncoached cycling sessions each week to suit all abilities.

Important – Your Responsibility

Please bring water, a spare tube, pump and tyre levers to all cycling sessions (in case of puncture – we’ll help you out).

Please familiarise yourself with FIT’s bunch riding rules and the Cycling Australia helmet requirements.

If you haven’t ridden with FIT Group before, our FIT Group Riding Hints and Tips and FIT Cycle – Group Communications documents will help you get up to speed.

Friday 6.00am – 7.15am – Coached Novice and Flat (handle) Bar Cycling

Location:  Meet at 1 Langton Cres., Parkes (Map), in the long carpark between the Treasury Building and Commonwealth Avenue.

The coached cycling sessions are conducted during the warmer months — September through to May. These are suitable for beginners who have not ridden in a group before, or riders wanting to improve their general confidence and skills. The sessions are also suitable for those wanting to learn new bike handling and bunch riding skills or refresh these skills.

New riders are welcome any time, but are particularly encouraged to come along to the FIRST Friday of every month. This session is most likely to focus on learning bike and group skills, while other sessions will include a road ride and skills.

All bike types welcome.

Wednesday and Friday 6.00am – 7.30am — Uncoached Intermediate to Experienced Rider Session

Location:  Meet at 1 Langton Cres., Parkes (Map), in the long carpark between the Treasury Building and Commonwealth Avenue.

Looking to get your cycling to a higher plane? Then this is the group for you! Rides are suitable for people with some fitness and some experience riding in a group. The group has a range of set ride routes of varying intensity around 25-35km.  The route is determined by riders on the day, or even the night before via messenge. You need to be comfortable with bunch riding at about 22km/hr and fixing a flat (although there’s plenty on hand to assist). The ride will regroup as necessary (e.g after a long climb, or following a series of hill repeats) and rest assured no one will get left behind.

New routes for February to April 2019.

Over winter numbers in this group may fluctuate.

Wednesday 6.00am-7.15am Uncoached Intermediate Session (formerly NANAs)

Location:  Meet at 1 Langton Cres., Parkes (Map), in the long carpark between the Treasury Building and Commonwealth Avenue.

This session is an uncoached group ride for cyclists that have undertaken some previous group riding skills training and who want to increase fitness and develop more advanced bunch riding skills. You will need a flat or curly-bar road bike and clip-in pedals are advised.

Ride routes vary (15-25km) and the group will often do ‘loops’ or ‘repeats’ to accommodate different fitness levels without leaving anyone behind.

A more experienced rider usually rides with the group to provide guidance and advice (although this is not a coached ride).

Friday 6.00am – 7.30am — Uncoached Intermediate Session

Location:  Meet at 1 Langton Cres., Parkes (Map), in the long carpark between the Treasury Building and Commonwealth Avenue.

The Friday Intermediate group rides all year round from 6am to approximately 7.15am no matter the temperature. We only cancel if there is set-in rain.

All riders with group riding skills and a level of fitness that lets you comfortably complete 25km are welcome.

The ride is relatively flat except for Mugga Way – we have a regrouping point at the top and bottom so riders can use that stretch to train at their own pace. At all other times we stay together as safe and well-formed group.

The route is the same each week and can be viewed here.
